TITLE: Special Education Hearing Impaired Support Aide - Sign Language Facilitator
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
To assist teachers in providing for the individual needs of the student in order for each student to achieve his/her maximum academic and social potential.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Hold the minimum of a high school diploma/GED
- Virginia Quality Assurance Screening Certification (VQAS) is desired
- Be at least 21 years of age
- Have good physical and emotional health
- Possess good character and leadership qualities
- Display an interest and ability in working with special education students
Areas of focused responsibility include:
- Interpreter services
- Supervision
- Assigned instructional tasks
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- To provide signed interpretation for oral communication between hearing impaired student and hearing individuals within the educational environment
- To comply with specific assignments and duties outlined by the teacher/principal
- To comply with all school board policies and State laws relative to special education classroom operation
- To assist the teacher in implementing daily and long-range lesson plans for assigned student(s), including supervision
- To utilize planning time effectively
- To assist the teacher in the preparation of classroom materials
- To assist the teacher in providing for the individual needs, abilities, and interests of the students
- To assume a fair share of the classroom duties as outlined by the classroom teacher
- To exhibit the necessary physical, mental, and emotional ability to execute duties as outlined by the teacher and principal
- To comply with contracted work hour schedules
- To perform other duties as assigned by the principal and/or special education teacher
