Title: Fine Arts Teacher of Modern Dance

 

Overview: As a high school dance instructor, you will be responsible for teaching students various styles of dance, fostering their creativity, promoting physical fitness, and instilling a love and appreciation for dance. You will design curriculum, plan lessons, and coordinate performances to showcase students' talents. Your role will also involve providing mentorship, guidance, and support to students, helping them develop their skills and confidence in dance.

 

Responsibilities:

  1. Curriculum Development:

    • Design an engaging and comprehensive dance curriculum that aligns with educational standards and objectives.
    • Select appropriate dance styles and techniques suitable for high school students.
    • Incorporate elements of dance history, theory, and cultural diversity into lesson plans.
  2. Instruction:

    • Teach dance techniques, choreography, and routines to students of varying skill levels.
    • Demonstrate proper dance techniques and provide constructive feedback to students.
    • Adapt teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles and abilities.
  3. Choreography:

    • Create original choreography for performances, competitions, and events.
    • Collaborate with students to develop choreography that highlights their strengths and talents.
    • Rehearse and refine dance routines to ensure precision and artistic expression.
  4. Performance Coordination:

    • Organize and oversee dance performances, showcases, and recitals throughout the school year.
    • Coordinate rehearsals, costume fittings, and stage setup for performances.
    • Guide students during performances and ensure a professional and polished presentation.
  5. Student Support and Development:

    • Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment where students feel encouraged to explore their creativity and express themselves through dance.
    • Provide mentorship, guidance, and emotional support to students, helping them overcome challenges and achieve their goals.
    • Encourage teamwork, collaboration, and respect among students.
  6. Assessment and Evaluation:

    • Assess student progress through observation, performance evaluations, and informal assessments.
    • Provide constructive feedback to students to help them improve their skills and techniques.
    • Monitor student attendance, participation, and behavior in class.
  7. Professional Development:

    • Stay informed about current trends, techniques, and developments in the field of dance education.
    • Attend workshops, conferences, and training sessions to enhance teaching skills and knowledge.
    • Collaborate with colleagues and participate in professional organizations related to dance education.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in dance, performing arts, education, or related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Previous experience teaching dance to high school students or similar age groups.
  • Proficiency in multiple dance styles such as ballet, jazz, contemporary, hip-hop, and cultural dances.
  • Strong choreography skills and creativity in designing dance routines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate students.
  • Patience, empathy, and a passion for working with young people.
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail in planning performances and events.
  • Commitment to creating a safe and inclusive learning environment.
  • Certification in dance education or relevant teaching credentials may be preferred or required, depending on the school or district.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
