TITLE:     INFORMATION SYSTEMS MANAGER

 

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The Information Systems Manager (ISM) provides customer support for the division’s student information system (PowerSchool), produces ad-hoc reports and state/federal mandated data collections, trains building-based staff in the use of data systems, and organizes various recurring electronic data transmissions. The ISM will also provide support for other key data software as needed. As well as managing the security of all data, and its recovery within the databases.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Manages and assists in all aspects of data and reporting (PowerSchool), including downloading data and entering/ updating data to ensure accuracy, completeness, and conformance to established standards and procedures
  • Performs all database applications pertaining to student information and creates summary databases/reports to meet state and federal reporting requirements.
  • Assists school-based personnel in implementing standards and operating procedures to ensure accuracy in the management of student data.
  • Collects, formats, extracts, and reports data so that it can be used as information to produce reports as required
  • Maintains a working knowledge of student data, school organization, and student information management systems used by the school division.
  • Creates audit reports to ensure the accuracy of all data is at the highest levels possible.
  • Builds integrated databases, systems, and tools to facilitate data extraction, consolidation, and reporting for the needs of end users
  • Works closely with all school division departments, school sites, technical support staff and other end users needing data.
  • Exports and formats data to be used by other information systems in a timely manner.
  • Maintains the security of all documents and identities of all users authorized to access.
  • Controls database security by managing all user identities and access to databases.
  • Makes sure that the encoded data is consistent among users.
  • Creates queries, based on data requests and customizes applications for data access and usability to meet division goals.
  • Responsible for recovering and restoring corrupted databases and ensure storage and back-up of data is adequate.
  • Troubleshoots operational and software problems to determine the cause of error or stoppage and applies corrective techniques.
  • Assists in reviewing and evaluating other computer database software applications pertaining to student information.
  • Contributes to the team effort by accomplishing other related duties that may be required for the effectiveness and efficient operation of the school division.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCES:

  • Degree or training and experience in database design and database management.
  • Experience in a K-12 educational environment is strongly recommended.
  • Knowledge of Virginia State Reporting and Virginia SOL Testing data is a plus.
  • Good communication skills and knows how to work well with team members.
  • Effectively convenes knowledge and necessary information to co-workers.
  • Good problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledgeable of the needs of various database users.
  • Updated on the new trends of technologies, computers and database access.
  • Must be organized and be able to assess good applications of the programs.
  • Be able to create pivot tables for end users.
  • Knowledge of webpage design
  • Demonstrates knowledge of file structure and database design.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:       Twelve-month contract (250 days)
