TITLE:          ELEMENTARY INTERVENTION SPECIALIST

 

PRIMARY FUNCTION: To positively impact student achievement through the delivery, demonstration, and support of research-based instruction in literacy and mathematics.  Implement strategies in direct interaction with students to ensure that all students achieve grade-level standards.  Assist students who do not master grade-level skills from the first instruction. Assist teachers in coordinating student progress monitoring and data collection.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Certification and experience as an elementary teacher.
  • Masters degree or an endorsement as a Reading and/or Math Specialist preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to transfer research-based practices into classroom instruction

 

REPORTS TO:         Principal

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Work with the principal, reading/math specialist(s), and classroom teachers to identify students in need of additional instruction, intervention, or remediation in reading and math.
  • Provide direct services to identified students or a group of these students, as assigned by the principal.
  • Implement effective instructional strategies that result in acceptable, measurable, and appropriate student academic progress.
  • Work with the principal, reading/math specialist(s), classroom teachers, and Office of Instruction to support the implementation of school-wide initiatives for reading/math intervention.
  • Model and demonstrate best practices in remedial and intervention instruction, including those targeted by the school division. Serve as a resource support for teachers as they implement these strategies.
  • Provide support for the administration of assessments and analysis of related student data.
  • Assist teachers in collecting and using data to drive instruction and identify appropriate intervention needs.
  • Maintain a variety of detailed records in written and electronic formats to communicate and monitor student progress with individual teachers at the building level.
  • Coordinate and organize data collection and presentation for school-wide and division-level needs.
  • Establish and maintain open communication, as well as collaborative relationships with classroom teachers, reading specialists, math specialists, tutors providing intervention services, and administrators.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:       10-Month Contract

 

EVALUATION:

 

Performance on this job will be evaluated following school board policy and administrative regulations on evaluating professional personnel.
