2. Have demonstrated the professional and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, parents, school personnel, and members of the community.

3. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

 

REPORTS TO:         Building Principal

 

JOB GOAL: 

To enable English Learner students the opportunity to attain both English proficiency and parity of participation in the standard instructional program.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Identify specific English language services needed for students and provide evidence-based practices and educationally sound instruction to meet students' needs.  
  2. Implements effective instructional strategies that result in acceptable, measurable, and appropriate student academic progress.
  3. Plans a program of instruction that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
  4. Provide students with the support they need to attain parity of participation in the standard instructional program.
  5. Evaluate each student in terms of initial needs and progress toward meeting set goals.
  6. Monitors and reports student progress.
  7. Supports students in identifying sources of support within the school building.
  8. Provides opportunities for students to share and explore cultural differences.
  9. Implement effective classroom management strategies.
  10. Works closely with other teachers to help students maintain classwork.
  11. Helps parents to understand the specific educational needs of students and the goals and operation of the program, apprising them of problems and progress.
  12. Participates in case conferences about the educational needs of students.
  13. Performs functions to facilitate communication pertinent to the educational program.
  14. Keeps abreast of new developments in the field of instructing English Language Learners and discusses problems of mutual interest with other resource teachers.
  15. Meets and instructs at the times designated.
  16. Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, division policy, and administrative procedures.
  17. Assists the administration in implementing all requirements for meeting State and Federal guidelines for instructing English Language Learners.
  18. Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
  19. Attends staff meetings and serves on committees as appropriate to the individual school site or division.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:      

Ten months a year.  Salary and work year to be established by the Board.

 

EVALUATION:

The performance of this job will be evaluated following provisions of the Board’s policy on the Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
